The Barony of Arn Hold now supports a Scribal Guild! The purpose of this guild is to provide a place for newcomers to try the scribal arts as well as a place for scribes to share their ideas and to learn new skills. This guild also exists as a support group to provide the much needed manuscript arts as a service to our Barony and to our Kingdom.
The scribes guild has regular monthly meetings that include classes, workshop time and lots of time to chat. Classes that we have had include:
- Project start to finish
- Borders from the Manesse Codex
- Bastard Secretary calligraphy hand
- Micrography
We have also had special daylong scribal gatherings in the Barony. We promote scribal classes, workshops and displays at events. We periodically offer "Scribes Kits" so newcomers can try out this art without an obscene start up cost.

Illumination:
Illumination is a pictorial embellishment of a page.
Prior to the creation of the first moveable type presses in the middle of the 15th century in Germany, Poland and Holland, all books were hand-made works of art. Every letter was drawn by hand with expensive inks, and pages suitable for the eyes of kings were decorated with gold and silver leaf, and beautiful miniature paintings.
